If what is leaking is a O-ring on one of the injector's-then it is as simple as removing the steel line, removing the injector, and replacing the O-ring.

There should be a dot or mark on the drive gear and a dot or mark on the injector pump gear. These marks must be lined up and the number 1 cylinder on compression stroke. When not done properly, damage can occure. I have seen this done the wrong way. But that preloads the pump and it will spin back half a tooth when you try to remove it. You then need to preload it to reinstall it - a real pain in the arse and needs two people. Removing the shaft seal is a little tricky because it's enclosed in a steel shroud and you can only get to the face of the seal. You will need to drill a 1mm hole in the seal face and screw in a fine self tapping screw, then using vice grips as a puller to remove the seal.

It's easier than it sounds. There's a very good how-to around here somewhere, I followed that but it doesn't have everything.

It takes hours, so don't kid yourself. Anything you want to know, ask away. Am more worried about getting to the seal more than anything. Does the shaft have a keyway to align gear? Saying that though, I run on high levels of WVO, and I'm sure I read that one of the things that the veg oil conversion injectors do is open at a higher pressure to make the spray better for veg oil? It's to do with better atomisation when using veg oil. Elsbett do it in their kits for example. I know the fuel doesn't cause, it, what I mean is that the injectors have the pop pressure raised to aid burning of veg oil.

Well I've found a guy on ebay doing the three seal kit for a tenner so I can live with that. Rather get it right first time.

Secondly the guy who sold me the injectors will change them happily enough, so I recommend him highly! This goes some way to explaining the slagging off that the 'cheap Chinese Zexel copy' injectors get.

If someone buys the wrong ones without knowing as I did, then they will fit them, think they're rubbish, get them setup correctly at extra cost and aggro, and hence the myth is born that Chinese injectors are rubbish After much, much reading last night I came to the conclusion that veg oil itself does cause the injectors to open at a lower pressure as people have discovered doing pop testing and also causes retardation due to a slower burn.

This is part of the reason the engine sounds quieter which in turn is translated as smoother running on veg. This can be got around by either advancing the IP timing or setting a higher pop pressure. Or both as a higher pop pressure on diesel would need an advance anyway. A higher pop pressure is also needed for better veg oil atomisation.

So I've read. But I also read that the 4M40 engine has a straight jet squirt, not a conical spray pattern as most injectors do. This is from the factory guides.DO NOT LOOSEN these nuts The pump is removed complete with mounting plate Rotate engine till number 1 cylinder is firing at top dead centre, check this by inspecting camshaft and timing mark on front pulley There is 1 bolt 14mm head retaining the rear of the pump, below where the injector lines attach remove this and also fuel delivery line and fuel return line.

Disconnect 2 water hoses one immediately above pump, 1 vertical along side motor behind pump. Plug or cap all disconnected lines as much as possible The timing cover plate is held by 1 bolt from the back and 4 bolts from the front, the one from the back and 3 from the front are reasonably easy to and remove, the 4th at the front is behind the air con idler tensioner bracket, it is possible to undo but not remove this boltthe alternative is to undo the air con pump and then remove the pump mounting bracket, which I was avoiding to do.

The pump can now be removed More important stuff Immediately on removing the pump, check the gear timing and the pump timing mark There is 2 marks for the gear timing on the plate, and 1 of the gear teeth is marked and should align with one of the housing marks probably the top markmake sure this is the case, and which mark, as you will need when refitting There is also a mark on the side of the pump flange near the mounting stud, which should align close to the mark on the mounting plate.

The whole unit with plate and gear can be removed to your local diesel shop for inspection or repair On refitting the gear timing needs to be realigned, in good practise the pump should be retimed to specification, but requires special tools to do. The pump timing should be checked and reset immediately the pump is refitted to the motor, before refitting any hoses or injector lines, to set the timing the pump is rotated on the mounting plate, to the specified setting, you may need to get someone with correct tools to do this for you.

If you are going to ignore getting the pump timing checked, make sure the pump alignment marks are either returned to there original positions, or exactly aligned, depending on what was done to the pump.

Hi further tdc info or pics? So i need to get the pump of now and repair the leak and possibly send of for seals doing. Do you have any photos or just some better deatils about the timming and how to set the car at top dead centre before i remove and the location of these notches. I did get a 4m40 workshop manualI dont want to do it but i have no other chioce, and money is a real issue right now.

Please any further help will be greatly apreciated, if i get pump of i mat send to diesel bob or somwhwere to get the seals done but again not sure about putting it back on. Ok thanks in advance The only way I can see this happening is if they access the seal by leaving the pump in situ and removing the front timing cover and drive gear, then change the seal with the pump still in the motor.
